116 days later…

We’re here, we made it – overland from Buenos Aires to Caracas in 4 months, more or less on or following the world’s largest mountain range.

RouteWhen we’ve been sat waiting for hours at bus terminals we devised a way to amuse ourselves and here are the results…

We have:

  • Visited 8 countries
  • Been to the world’s driest desert
  • Been to the world’s largest and highest salt flats
  • Visited one of the seven wonders of the world
  • Crossed the equator (stood on it, hopped over it, straddled it)
  • Been from zero meters above sea level to 5,012m above
  • Endured temperatures ranging from -15C to +32C
  • Been 9 weeks without a single drop of rain
  • Not been sick on a single bus (although its got close a few times)
  • Been bought coffee by one set of police and offered a hot dog from another
  • Only lost Marie’s cloth sunglasses cover
  • Used everything we packed in our rucksacks

We have travelled on:

  • 106 buses
  • 36 taxis (usually because the bus terminal is out of town)
  • 2 4×4’s
  • 1 bike
  • 8 boats (1 as part of the journey)
  • 4 metro systems
  • 2 horses
  • 3 trains
  • 2 trucks
  • 1 kayak
  • hitchhiked once
  • 1 shared taxi
  • once on foot (as part of the journey)

We have slept in:

  • 47 hotels/hostels/posadas etc, including 3 love motels (that we know of)
  • 11 night buses
  • 1 tent
  • 1 salt hotel
  • 1 refuge
  • 1 train
  • 2 homestays
  • 1 jungle camp
  • 1 set of hammocks

We need a holiday!!!!
